Disasters in Slow Motion (pt. 19) - Aug 4, 2020

Worldwide Cases: 18,647,906 (+4,078,773)
Worldwide Deaths: 701,201 (+94,035)
Worldwide Mortality Rate: 3.76% (-0.40%)
Worldwide Mortality Rate (without US): 3.93% (-0.44%)
US Cases: 4,906,636 (+1,029,135)
US Deaths: 159,970 (+16,793)
US Mortality Rate: 3.26% (-0.43%)
US Total Recovered: 2,474,672 (+685,533)
Florida/Collier Cases: 497,330 (+147,283) / 9,897 (+2,082)
Florida/Collier Deaths: 7,402 (+2,417) / 129 (+22)
Florida/Collier Mortality Rate: 1.48% (+.06%) / 1.30% (-0.06%)

As shown above, the mortality rate globally (as well as within the US) continues to come down. This is good news. The bad news is that, even if we take Florida’s mortality rate as the “true” rate and there were no more new cases? Another 31k+ Americans would die. Sadly, based on the rate of spread (and the rate of deaths) in the US, that number is woefully low. We are still averaging a little over 1,000 deaths per day in the US. On May 30th I predicted that we would surpass 200,000 dead between Oct 3-10. I was apparently optimistic. With the current numbers we should cross that threshold between Sept 11-13th, likely on September 11th. If things do not change, we will hit 300,000 dead before the end of the year.

This is not “going away”, we are dying. Keep in mind that the sum total of American dead in WWII was 407,316, at this rate we will surpass that number in April. Something MUST be done, and our government is not doing it. I don’t just mean the flaming dumpster fire that is the Trump administration’s response to Covid-19, but the response of his sycophants as well.

Here in Florida, Trump Toady DeSantis is now telling people that we are seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases, not because of how people are behaving (which is terribly) but because Covid-19 is “seasonal” and it is getting worse because of the warm weather. Meanwhile, just a month ago, he was telling us that the increase in cases was because young people were staying inside where it was cool. He has taken no real action, because DeSantis isn’t a leader - he’s just a little rich boy playing at politics while people die. The reason that more Floridians aren’t dead is simply because we have some REALLY good healthcare providers in this state - with as many retirees as we have, you need to.

So, what’s next?

Well, as can be seen from the disparity between new cases vs. new recoveries, the US is still in serious trouble. There is a reason that the Russians are spreading Covid-19 misinformation within the US, simply put - they remain our enemy and are doing everything they can to destroy us.

They are succeeding.

This is not one of my “hopeful” days folks. The math is bad, really bad. Even as the mortality rate is dropping, the number of new cases is bad news...really bad news. Like I said, 400k dead by April, that will take us to half a million dead by July 4, 2021 (or sooner) if we don’t get this under control.

Yesterday, I got to go get tested for Covid-19. I don’t think I have Covid, but something odd is going on and the screening system said... “yeah, you need to get tested.” So, here I am, watching the country burn to the ground around me while stupidity reigns. Meanwhile, we’ve had another mask-related shooting, that led to a police shootout. This is not to be confused with last month’s mask-related stabbing that led to police shooting the anti-masker dead.

Darker times are ahead...
